Summer break is awesome. No school. Playing outside. Staying up late. It’s great. It’s also a perfect time to build some memories and keep learning. The Ozarks have lots of fun options for kids to stay busy this summer, some of them just plain fun and some of the educational too! Don’t let your kind get a bad case of FOMO when they see their friends doing cool stuff in town! Here are 12 things every kid should experience this summer in the Ozarks.

Ride the Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City has plenty of things for the kids to do and the newest one is the Time Traveler roller coaster! It’s the world’s tallest (highest point is 100 feet), fastest (top speed is 50.3 mph) spinning roller coaster! If the kids are too little to ride, there are still a huge amount of fun things to do in SDC!

 Play a round of golf at Getaway Golf


Getaway Golf is in the midst of its second season in business in Springfield!  It has two full 18-hole courses.  One has a United States theme, the other will has a theme from around the globe.  Each hole has a different landmark unique to its theme.  The U.S side starts in St. Louis under the Arc.  On the other course, you’ll visit the Eiffel Tower, Stone Henge and plenty more! Sounds fun!



Hang out at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park

Wanna do something fun like see adorable baby goats? Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park is a great spot for stuff like this.  They’ve got tons of activities for the kiddos like fishing, riding horses and plenty of other outdoor activities!

See a movie at Moxie Kids Screenings


If your kids love movies, they’ll love the Moxie’s Kid Screenings. These hour-long events feature innovative short films and hands-on art-making for children ages 2-6. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! Dates for the screenings include July 8th, July 22nd, August 5th, and August 19th, all at 10am. Remember, children must be accompanied by an adult.



Ride the Highwire Bike at Discovery Center


This may be the coolest thing your kids will want to do this summer! The HighWire Bicycle is an interactive exhibit that allows visitors to experience the law of “center of gravity” in dramatic way. But get this: it’s three stories tall! It’s completely safe and a really fun thing to do this summer.



Climb Around at Fritz’s Adventure

80,000 square feet of hands-on climbing, tunneling, sliding, and zip-lining … yes, all that exists. And it’s located right in Branson, MO! Fritz’s Adventure is a dynamic family attraction that brings the excitement and challenges of outdoor adventure into a multi-dimensional indoor environment. Fritz’s has anything your inner climbing monkey could want: warped walls, underground tubes and tunnels, a laser room, tree houses, suspended bridges and more. They also have a restaurant with healthy menu choices overlooking the indoor adventure park!


Eat Pizza and Play Games at Incredible Pizza

Incredible Pizza is the place that has it all this summer! Mini bowling, bumper cards, laser tag, go karts, arcade games, a tilt-a-whirl ride, and we can’t forget the intensely delicious buffet! They have plenty of family deals going on to give you a chance to save some money this summer.


Use their noggins to navigate the Escape Room

An escape room is an awesome way to get the kids out of the house and using their brains in a fun way this summer! Springfield has it’s very own escape room on south Campbell. An escape room is truly a unique and interactive activity where you and up to 5 friends are placed in a room with only 60 minutes to escape or complete a challenge! They have rooms for all ages. Explore the Caves at Fantastic Caverns

Fantastic Caverns is a great place to take any kid whole loves to learn about the earth and nature! There are only four like this in the entire world, and only one in North America. At the caverns, you’ll discover the world’s most beautiful natural giant columns, stretching from floor to ceiling. The kids will be in awe as they explore from the comfort of a jeep-drawn tram!


Figure out whodunit at Clue Pursuit

If your kids love mysteries, Clue Pursuit is the ultimate summer activity! You’ll solve riddles, find clues, and work together to solve a mystery and find the way out of the room. The entire Clue Pursuit experience will take you roughly 1 1/2hrs to complete. Reservations are required! You can make reservations and read the FAQs on their website above.


Meet the animals on Dickerson Park Zoo’s new boardwalk

The zoo is always a good time and now you can have even more fun on the newly renovated boardwalk! A scenic stroll here can be loads of fun and also really educational, too! You may have noticed that Dickerson Park Zoo welcomed some new baby Cheetahs recently, too! They’re not quite ready for public viewing just yet, you can check them out on Facebook and keep an eye out for when they make their debut!



Jump Around at SkyZone

A room lined from wall to wall with trampolines is the epitome of the things that kids dream about. Now that can become a reality at SkyZone! Based on the amount of time you want to jump, the prices range from $10 to $22. As a bonus, try going on Friday and Saturday nights for the GLOW night!
