Missouri Athletes Expected to Excel at 2012 London Olympics

They’re some of the best athletes in their respective areas. These individuals have put in innumerable hours of blood, sweat and tears. 529 athletes from 45 states will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Missouri has 12 of it own Olympians and we’re very proud of them!

…So without further ado, let’s meet some of the Olympians from Missouri! –We’re proud of you!

 

Brittany Borman will toss the javelin for U.S. Track & Field. She grew up in Festus and attended the University of Oklahoma. She is a four-time NCAA Champion.

 

 

Christian Cantwell will compete in the men’s shot put for U.S. Track & Field. He attended Eldon High School and currently lives in Columbia, Mo..

 

 

Dawn Harper will compete in the 100 meter hurdles for U.S. Track & Field. She is an East St. Louis native and graduated from East St. Louis High School.

 


Derrick Helton will compete for the USA Paralympics Rugby Team. He was born in Tuscumbia, Mo., and began playing wheelchair rugby near St. Louis about 7 years ago. He played for the University of Arizona.

 

 

Spenser Mango will wrestle for USA. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and graduated from Christian Brothers College in 2004. He won two state titles in wrestling.

 

 

Chantae McMillan will compete in the heptathlon for U.S. Track & Field. She was born in Rolla, Mo., and attended Rolla High School.

 

 

Maurice Mitchell will compete in sprints for U.S. Track & Field. He is from Kansas City Mo., and attended Raytown South High School where he won 8 state titles.

 

 

Maya Moore will compete in basketball for Team USA. She was born in Jefferson City. Both of her parents played college basketball

 

 

Jennifer Nichols will compete in archery for Team USA. She was born in Kansas City and competed in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

 

 

Candace Parker will compete in basketball for Team USA. She was born in St. Louis. She was the first woman to win a slam-dunk contest in 2004, defeating 5 men.

 

 

Becky Sauerbrunn will compete in soccer for Team USA. She was born in St. Louis and went to Ladue High School. She is the Virginia Cavaliers’ only three-time NSCAA All-American.

 

 

Matt Tegenkamp will compete in the 10,000 meter for U.S. Track & Field. He was born in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Matt finished thirteenth in Beijing in 2008 in the 5,000 meter.
