All the Holiday Events You Need to Know About in Springfield This Year

The holiday season is in full swing. Christmas will be here before you know it and that means the holiday event season is here, too! There are so many great ways to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year! Here’s a list of all the best holiday events in Springfield this Christmas season!


 

Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro

Now- December 24th

This isn’t just a way to visit Santa before Christmas. Bass Pro’s Winter Wonderland is an experience like no other for kids. There are crafts, free photos, Lincoln Logs, a toy arcade, remote control trucks and plenty more!


 

Windows at the Fox Theater

The History Museum on the Square is a great place to learn about the legacy of the city and during Christmas it’s a great time to see some adorable displays in the windows from the square. The folks at the museum put up their first display the same night as the tree lighting ceremony and will have displays for viewing well into the new year!

 


 

Santa at The Battlefield Mall

Visiting Santa at the Battlefield Mall is a tradition for youngsters in Springfield that has been in practice for many years. Santa makes time to stop by several times a day leading up to Christmas and offers a great photo op for parents and a fantastic memory for kids.

Missouri Spirits transforms into ‘Miracle’ during the holiday season! It’s a pop-up bar that has tons of fun events like an ugly sweater party, karaoke and lots of other fun things. Plus, there’s plenty of options to get in the holiday spirits too!

 


 

 

Elf Jr. at Landers Theater

November 24 – December 10

Elf Jr. the Musical at Landers Theater is a perfect way to get in the spirit of the season with your whole family. It’s a kid friendly show that won’t bore the parents. It’s based on the Will Ferrell movie in which Buddy the elf discovers who he really is and what Christmas is really all about. We can’t wait to see it!

 


 

Live Nativity at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds

The 35th annual live nativity pageant at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds begins on November 30th. It’s a dramatic retelling of the birth and life of Christ that has become a local tradition that many people look forward to every year.


 

Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights is a series of Christmas-y events in Dowtown Springfield. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides, free ice skating, holiday productions, shows and concerts and the Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade. Breakfast with the Nutcracker

Take your Santa photo op to the next level at this event hosted by Melody Pettit of KSPR! Your kids can meet Santa and the characters from the Springfield Ballet’s Nutcracker cast.  Thy can also participate in crafts, eat some delicious pastries and catch performances from the the Nutcracker players!

 


 

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Musical

December 3, 2017, Sunday, 3 p.m. & 6 p.m.

Derived from the claymation classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, this Broadway Bonus at Juanita K. Hammons Center for the Perfoming Arts is sure to bring back some great memories for parents and some great new ones for kids! All the characters are present! Yukon Cornelius, Hermey the Elf, the Abominable Snowman and of course Rudolph himself!

 


 

Christmas Vespers

Sunday December 3rd  at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The Vespers tradition at Drury University is more than 60 years old and comes back this December for another year. It’s a chorus crooning Christmas classics like ‘Silent Night’ and ‘O, Come, All Ye Faithful’ to guests at absolutely no charge. Be sure to reserve your tickets early, though. This event is usually pretty packed!


 

Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade

If you love Christmas, you can’t miss this parade. It’s the grandaddy of them all! The parade is a long standing tradition in Springfield that is a surefire way to get in the spirit of the holiday season. Downtown Springfield’s Bethany Bell said “Whether you love Rudolph or Ralphie, remember holiday shopping at Heer’s or enjoy watching Park Central Square light up each year, one thing is certain: Festive local stories bring us together.” We couldn’t have said it better!


Springfield Symphony Holiday Concert

December 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

This year, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra is putting on ‘The Snowman,’ based on a short film of the same name by Raymond Briggs. It is the story of a young boy whose snowman comes to life and is told through the brilliant sounds of the symphony. At the end of the show, the orchestra will finish with its annual tradition of a sing along with the crowd!


 

The Nutcracker 

December 15-18

The Springfield Ballet will hold six shows of the Nutcracker this year, giving you plenty of chances to see the Christmas classic in a beautiful venue. Follow along as Clara and her Nutcracker Prince dash from an extravagant Christmas party to a fierce battle with the evil Mouse King, then on a magical journey through the Land of Snow and Kingdom of Sweets.
