30 Things to Do in Springfield This July

We’re smack dab in the middle of summer and there are so many great events on the calendar for this month! Tons of concerts are coming to town this month. You’ve got everything from Allison Krauss to Band of Horses and some great local favorites like Members Only and Jake Wesley Rogers. There’s a lot to do with the little ones too! Whatever you like to do, there’s sure to be something for you in July!

Freedom Week Fireworks are back at Hammons Field for 2018. Following the game, fans will be allowed to come onto our award-winning field for a unique Freedom Week Fireworks experience on the Fourth of July. The celebration continues July 5–6 with more fireworks to enjoy from your seat.


 33RD ANNUAL STARVY CREEK BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL

When: July 5-7, 11 a.m. to 10:40 p.m.

Where: 2229 Bluegrass Rd.  Conway, MO

Thousands of people will descend on the bluegrass park for the three day event on July 5,6, & 7, 2018. The event will consist of the essentials: 500 RV electric hookups, concessions, restrooms, showers, and national award-winning bluegrass entertainers. This is an amazing event promoted by Don & Bobbie Day. Performing at this festival are: The Grascals, Flatt Lonesome, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Larry Stephenson and several other bands. BrewCo Tie Dye Party

2018 CHRISTIAN COUNTY FAIR

If you’re looking for a summer activity suitable for the whole family, head to the Christian County Fair. Expect carnival rides; inflatables; mouthwatering food; a petting zoo; exhibits, contests and shows of all kinds, including an impressive livestock show; and more. The Danielle Downing Band, The A-Listers, Finley River Boys, Pride and Joy Cloggers and Back Road Story are all part of the packed live entertainment lineup.


 

Jake Wesley Rogers

When: Jul 7, 9:00 PM

Where: The Outland Ballroom

Jake Wesley Rogers is originally from Springfield, so this show is a bit of a homecoming for him. He’s since moved to Nashville while performing on America’s Got Talent and at venues across the country. He’ll be performing songs from his new EP called Evergreen. HE’ll be joined by Springfield bands D. Clea and Blue False Indigo.


2018 LEARN TO GROW IN THE GARDEN SERIES

Linda Siler is the Water Garden Specialist at Wickman’s Garden Center. Linda will present a program about water gardening container style. Participants will come away with new ideas ideas on container types, plants, and fish for smaller water gardens. Linda’s programs are always very creative and full of new ideas.


RIB & WING FEST

When: July 13, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: The Fork and Spoon by Simply Delicious

Join us for a night of great food and family fun! Enjoy house-smoked meats, homemade sides and a sauce bar to top it off! Hang out at the bar and sip on local beers. BALL OF THE WILD RIO DE JANEIRO

Party like an animal and join in on the fun of the zoo’s 18th annual fundraiser, the largest of the year benefiting Friends of the Zoo, a nonprofit dedicated to making Dickerson Park Zoo a first-class facility. The night features national bands with live music, dancing and a buffet-style dinner catered by various local restaurants.


 

DAVE FEST

Head to Lost Signal Brewery for a day filled with music, featuring five bands, a huge party, beer and delicious barbecue. Buffalo Gals, Blake Gardner and the Farmers, Bootleg Riot, The Royal Furs and Me Like Bees are all scheduled to perform. VIP tickets all include two drink tickets, seats in the first four rows and a gift bag.


 

WATERSHED SUMMER GALA

When: July 14, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Darr Agriculture Center, 2401 S Kansas Expy

This annual fundraiser features a whiskey pull, Brown Derby Wine Grab and bag toss. The night includes delicious local food and beer and wine throughout the evening, keeping bellies full and spirits light. Join in on the fun and put your wallet to good use as you support growing education and outreach programs and the Watershed Fellowship Programs.

$15 cover – All ages show – Doors open at 7:00 and show is from 9:00 to 12:30. Kids 10 and under are FREE! Tickets sold at the door on the day of the show only starting at 7:00. Food trucks will be available. You can bring your own lawn chairs. No outside coolers. This is an outdoor show.


 

SPRINGFIELD ROYAL PRINCESS BALL

When: July 15, 9 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Springfield, 2431 N. Glenstone Ave

Surprise your kids at this one-of-a-kind event where kids can meet and greet Disney princesses––Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel and more. This dreamy and magical night, called Dream Parties, is the recreation of a fairy tale princess ball with stage performances. Children ages 3 to 7 can dress up in costumes and get the chance to take part in princess games, story time and sing-alongs and learn ballroom dancing.

QUEEN CITY KICKBALL REGISTRATION

When: July 15, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m

Druff’s and Mother’s Brewery join together to present Queen City Kickball. Queen City Kickball is an age 21+ Kickball League beginning on Sunday, August 12th and running until October 14th, with a 2 week break for Oktoberfest and Labor Day in the Mother’s Brewery Backyard. The League consists of teams of 10 players. Games will start at 2:30 PM every Sunday afternoon and continue every hour after. The final Sunday will be a 4 team playoff between league leaders. Registration per team is $450 and is due before play begins. Each team will be outfitted in sweet team T-shirts to wear each Sunday. GWAR

Eclectic rock band GWAR is coming back to Springfield. If you don’t know who GWAR is yet, you should probably google their shows before you head out to this concert. Their shows are pretty…intense.


Theory Of A Deadman

The Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman will be gracing the stage of the Gillioz on July 18. They’ve been around since 2001 and have had 3 number one singles.


MEET THE VOICE OF THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

When: July 19, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Fork and Spoon, 2340 West Grant St

Mitch Holthus, voice of the Kansas City Chiefs and host of the Hy-Vee Chiefs Insider is coming to visit fans in Springfield at the Fork and Spoon restaurant on West Grand Street.

Golf’s rising stars descend upon Highland Springs Country Club for the 29th Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper. Watch as some of the nation’s finest PGA Web.com Tour golfers compete to raise money for 48 children’s charities across 417-land. Events open to the community take place July 20 through 30, with the pros playing July 26 through 29.


SHREK THE MUSICAL JR.

If your kids love the big green ogre from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated movies, then they will love the Springfield Little Theatre’s performance of Shrek the Musical Jr. It’s a chance for kids to see a fairy tale world full of fantastical and familiar characters—like Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, and Lord Farquaad, just to name a few—in an onstage adventure.


THE ELEPHANT MAN

In the Springfield area premiere of the Tony Award–winning play The Elephant Man, a lonely man suffers from facial deformity that leaves him no option for work other than to join a traveling sideshow as a freak attraction. Band of Horses: For over a year now, indie rock band Band of Horses has been experiencing huge popularity thanks to three hit albums and popular tour dates. Led by the haunting vocals and emotional songwriting of guitarist Ben Bridwell, Band of Horses is putting their unique spin on indie music marked by subtle synth and keyboards. Band of Horses’ latest album, Infinite Arms, has continued the band’s rise to fame and sparked numerous tour dates in 2011; including those in support of Kings of Leon this summer.
