Labor Day is upon us. For the 134th time in our nation’s history. This holiday was created to celebrate the hard work we all do every day, so what better way to celebrate than by not working? Well, Realtors really don’t have holidays, but we’re glad you do! Labor Day is a perfect holiday in the Ozarks, because the weather should be perfect, not too hot, not yet cold. And this year, we’re in luck because there’s plenty going on to keep us entertained. Let’s take a look at some of the best things to do this weekend in the #SGF!
This Friday we’ll be downtown on the Square for First Fridays and we hope you’ll join us! There will be musical performances by Hamburger Cows, Brandon Moore and Marcus Chatman.
Also appearing at First Friday is Springfield Improv and Springfield Rugby, though probably not at the same time! As always, Springfield Brewing Company will be on hand doling out tasty root beers.
Take in some amazing dimensional artwork by local sculptors on this museum without walls. The Sculpture Walk is a wonderful way to burn a few calories after dinner and to expand your horizons with local art.
One of the latest pieces, Breathe by Joan Benefiel, has been generating a lot of buzz in the city. It’s at Springfield Brewing Company on the Sculpture Walk. Definitely a good place to stop! There’s also some fantastic works by Joe Malesky, Domenico Belli, Snail Scott, Larry Young and many others.
This guy is funny. He’s been on Jimmy Kimmel, John Oliver’s Standup Comedy Show, Late Night with Seth Myers, and has his own comedy special on Comedy Central. Be forewarned, Ben’s stuff isn’t for kids or anyone who has sensitive ears.
The freshly Emmy nominated late night show is the pride of the Springfield Comedy scene. Host Jeff Houghton and his trusty team of writers are sure to have another great season of hilarious sketches and maybe even another viral video like Instagram Husband, which now has more than 5.5 million views on Youtube! Since we know you’ve already seen IG husband, here’s another great sketch from the Mystery Hour:
You can get tickets to the live taping of the Mystery Hour at the Gillioz Theater right here!
Join Dallas and Molly at Springfield Brewing Company this Sunday for some delicious food and folk music. They hang out from 6-9 p.m. each Sunday night upstairs at SBC. If you’ve never seen Molly and Dallas together before, you’re really missing out. They’re definitely one of the best musical duos in the city!
According to Springfield News-Leader journalist Greg Holman, CB Social House has a “meat-forward” menu, which sounds perfectly fine to us! CB Social House is by the same people who brought us City Butcher (CB, get it?), so they know their meats pretty well. Holman also says CB Social House has more than 200 varieties of scotch. The only way to find out for sure is to head on over and see it for yourself!
