If you’re looking for a new community to move to this year and you’re a golfer, you’ve got so many great neighborhoods to choose from. One of the most sought after golf communities in the area is easily Millwood Subdivision. It’s been a popular destination for Ozarks families for more than 20 years and with good reason. It has so much to offer for people of all ages. Here are just a few of the reason living in Millwood is completely awesome!
When you drive through the subdivision you’ll notice a contemporary style present in the homes that line the streets of Millwood. Many of the homes are designed with brick and stone exteriors, giving a strong, classical first impression. Old world style is also prevalent in the homes in the neighborhood, offering a modern take on timeless designs. There’s always something beautiful on the market and you can always check out the inventory on murney.com!
Kind of a no-brainer here. Millwood is a golfing community, so naturally it has a very well maintained course built into the fabric of the neighborhood. But did you know it’s a championship course designed by the president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Greg Martin? The course is a stunning aesthetic treasure that provides a challenge to players, but not one so difficult that it scares off beginners. According to the course’s website it is “composed of Zoysia fairways, Blue Grass/Fescue roughs and Crenshaw Creeping Bent grass greens.” The course was strategically designed to include gently rolling, tree-lined terrain complemented by fairway and greenside bunkers, ponds and creeks. You’re gonna love it.
Every great course also has a great restaurant for players to grab a bite to eat at the turn or recount their one good shot of the day after 18. They’re in luck at Millwood because the Nineteenth is considered one of the best golf course restaurants in town. Its menu is crafted for any occasion. They’ve got quick meals for the golfers, fine dining meals for a date night and plenty of choices in between. Flatbreads, sandwiches, salads and pastas are all great choices and the entree menu is no joke. They do incredible plates like Prime Rib, Ahi Ahi Tuna and of course, Millwood’s famous stuffed meatloaf. You really can’t go wrong.
It’s pretty great when all the golf gear you’ll ever need is literally in your backyard (or close enough anyway). They carry only the finest name brand stuff to make you look good when you’re shanking drives off the first tee. They also do custom fitting for Callaway, Ping, Mizuno or Taylor Made so your clubs fit your body exactly like they should. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, let the friendly staff in the pro shop know and they’ll look into getting it custom ordered for you!
A course like Millwood has to have a quality pro on hand to lend his expertise to fellow members and run the show on the links. Millwood has exactly that in Christ Obert. He’s been with Millwood since 1995 and has been instructing since 1992. He played collegiate golf for Western Illinois and was an All-Team Athletic and Academic player. Chris has also served as the golf coach for Glendale since 2014. He’s a celebrated instructor and draws rave reviews from residents and visitors alike.
Speaking of Obert, he’s also the coach for the Millwood Junior Golf Team. It’s a great way to introduce kids under 13 to the game and develop their skills for a sport they can play their entire lives. If your child really enjoys the game, there are even options to join the traveling team to compete against other young golfers. Players can be members of the Junior team without traveling, though. Plus, it’s very affordable, just $60 to join.
Aside from golf, there are tons of great amenities in the ‘hood! First things first, the pool is amazing! It’s like a resort just down the street from your house. It has a slide that will keep the kids entertained for hours, a basketball goal, and plenty of room for the little ones to splash around out of the way of the rest of the action. The Cabana is also right nearby to provide snacks and drinks when it’s time for a break. In addition to the Millwood pool, there’s also a competition pool where the swim team practices and where swim lessons are held.
Millwood’s fitness facility is designed to meet the basic needs of those desiring to lose weight, regain lost strength, improve muscle mass, improve a golf swing or train for other sports. Cardiovascular equipment includes treadmills, PreCor elliptical trainer, stairstepper and recumbent bikes. There is also an array of free weights and a complete Cybex Machine circuit system.
Paul Putt has a great name for a guy who works at a golf community. He’s has been an athletic trainer for over 20 years providing rehabilitative care to people and athletes of all ages. As a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, he has been providing personal training and strength and conditioning programming for over 17 years. Millwood offers various training options such as one-on-one training, small group training, athletic enhancement programs, Functional Movement Screens and Sports medicine rehabilitation. Each fitness client will receive an evaluation that consists of a health questionnaire, body fat and girth measurements, strength and muscular endurance tests, cardiovascular test and flexibility.
Millwood features four lighted outdoor courts so you can work on your game at almost any time. Amanda Smith and Jarrod Smith are the Tennis Co-Directors, who provide members with a full tennis program, featuring adult and junior lessons designed for beginners through advanced players. Addititonally, they have regular games of Pickle ball for people looking for a fun, theoretically easier way to use the courts.
The staff at Millwood are always coming up with new ways to bring the community together. Whether its something fun for the adults like a tequila tasting or something for the whole family like the Millwood Spooktacular at Halloween, there’s always something to look forward to. If you’re interested in what they have on the schedule now, you can always check them out on Facebook where they keep residents updated on what they’ve got coming up.
For folks who are looking to move to Millwood, you’ll be after the full membership, which includes everything the club offers. For golfers seeking a club, Millwood has five different options for all types of players that includes food and beverage. If you’re just looking for a place to hang out with your friends who live in Millwood, there’s a social membership that gets you into the Nineteenth Grille, the pool and other social events. Finally, if you’re acting on behalf of a company, you can lock down a great rate for corporations. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and they’ll help you get the access you need to this great community!
