Well, the nominees are set. The Shape of Water led the way with 13 nominations and some familiar faces like Meryl Streep and Daniel Day Lewis have been nominated again. The event figures to be another big night in fashion and film, but we’re more interested in where the statues end up! Let’s take a look at some of the amazing homes of this year’s Oscar Nominees!
Nominated for Lead Actress in The Post
Back in December, Streep picked up this awesome mid-century modern home for $3.6 million in Pasadena. It is an amazing home with the charm of the 1950s architecture that is also very popular in Springfield. It’s just over 3,000 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. We love the floor to ceiling windows and the stone fireplace! In addition to being a great actor, she has some pretty good taste! Streep is no stranger to the Oscars. This is her 21st nomination!
Nominated for Lead Actress in I, Tonya
Margot Robbie’s meteoric rise to the A-List of Hollywood hasn’t made her into a stuffy starlet. She’s known as one of the most down-to-earth people in film and her home is a good example of that. It’s not like Denzel’s stately manor. It’s a house, albeit a very, very cool one. It’s 5 bedrooms and 5 and a half baths, but what it lacks in sheer size it makes up for in amazing finishes and super-cool modern style. You’ve got to see the tour!
Nominated for Lead Actress in Lady Bird
Late last year, Saoirse Ronan shed her home in Ireland for just over $600,000. She bought it only a few years ago for just over $400,000, netting a pretty sweet profit in a short amount of time! This spot is in the village of Howth and features a beautiful three tier garden, stunning hardwoods and is just a short walk to the sea! Ronan apparently bought a much grander home in Wicklow (not the Springfield one). This is her second nomination at the Academy Awards.
Nominated for Supporting Actress in Mudbound
Eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, indoor basketball court, wine cellar; these are just a few of the features of R&B singer turned actress Mary J. Blige’s New jersey mansion. She put it on the market back in May for a jaw-dropping $8.88 million. It has soaring ceilings in nearly every room and extraordinary detail in the molding and columns peppered through the floor plan. Take a look around!
Nominated for Lead Actor in Roman J. Israel Esq.
Not much is known about Denzel’s Hollywood Hills mansion. He reportedly purchased the lot for around $6 million, but the actual cost of the home is unknown. We’re guessing it’s pretty high. Washington has now been nominated 8 times for Oscars, winning in 2002 for lead actor in Training Day and for Supporting actor in 1990 for Glory.
Nominated for Lead Actor in Phantom Thread
Three time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is notoriously reclusive. He lives in his native Ireland, but is very private in his personal life. This home isn’t his IRL, but it is where he filmed Phantom Thread, the film for which he was nominated this year. It’s a London town home worth 15 million pounds, which is about $20 million. It’s more than 10,000 square feet, featuring a rooftop terrace, a courtyard garden and plenty more. It was originally built in 1790! Take a look around!
Nominated for Supporting Actor in The Florida Project
Willem Dafoe sold this architectural gem back in 2008. It’s a pretty famous place that has been used by many creatives in the past as a retreat. It’s privately located in the Mohonk nature reserve 100 miles away from New York City. The home is completely unlike any other. It has a dance studio! It’s also got a paint-free exterior made of neoprene (hence the name Rubber House). The coolest part? It’s on Air B n’B! You can rent it for just $500/night! Spare change for an actor like Dafoe, who has been nominated for a third time. For the rest of us, maybe not. Take a look inside!
Nominated for Best Director for Get Out
Jordan Peele and his wife Comedian Chelsea Peretti bought this neat Los Feliz home back in July. It’s a style that is influenced by mid-century architecture with clean lines and unique features at every turn. It also has a really great backyard with a pool and a breathtaking view of Los Angeles from the covered patio. Peele will be experiencing the Oscars for the first time this year, but after the success of Get Out, it probably won’t be his last!
