Summer Activities for Kids in SGF

May 26, 2016

School’s out! That means lots of outdoor activities, picnics, kite-flying, bike riding, park strolling, and some major pool time. There are tons of things going on in SGF this summer season, especially for the kids–including things like art classes, dance camps, free fishing days, and even a peek into the new Wonders of Wildlife museum. If you are looking for some fun things to do with your children, here is our ultimate activities guide for kids this summer in Springfield!

Free Kids Fishing Fun Day
On June 4th, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and the Missouri Department of Conservation are hosting the 35th Annual Kids Fishing Fun Day at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park! This a FREE event. It’s designed to teach kids how to fish and encourage them to put their new skills to work throughout the summer. The pond will be stocked full with catfish and bluegill, and every kid can catch and keep up to three fish. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and must supply their own rod and reel, bait and stringer for the fish. The day will include first fish photos, fish weigh-in, instructional fish cleaning and free drinks. Space is limited! Pre-registration is required for this event and no on-site registration is available, so register early at parkboard.org, or call 417-864-1332.

Events at Chick-Fil-A on Glenstone

There will be archery lessons, marshmallow roasting, leather crafts, and you can make your own trail mix. There will be inflatables open until midnight and a “Build Your Own Sundae Party”! The Springfield Police will stay at the camp site and patrol the area all night long and you can come in for a great breakfast in the morning! RSVP here to reserve your spot. Later on in the summer, Princess Night is July 26th from 5-8pm and Action Hero Night is on Aug 30 from 5-8pm.
