8 Places To Take Your Family This Holiday Season

December 16, 2016

If you’ve got family coming into town for the holidays and you’re at a loss as to what to do when they’re here, fear not! We’ve gathered some ideas for great family outings this winter season as well as some fun places to visit in Springfield. Hover over each photo for more tips and ideas!

Grab some Andy’s Frozen Custard

Andy’s  Frozen Custard is a staple of the Ozarks, and on the “must visit” list when introducing people to the best parts of Springfield. They’ve got a great seasonal menu and they offer these treats on a “limited time only” basis. Supplies are limited, so be sure to get your “Words Can’t Describe It” Apple Pie Sundae and Concrete, Candy Cane Concrete, or Andy Nog Shake as soon as possible!

Try Ice Skating at Mediacom Ice Park

Take your friends or family out for a night of ice skating at Mediacom Ice Park! They have the Festival of Lights happening on Christmas night, with Free Open Skate admission and just a $2.50 skate rental from 5-6 p.m. Every other day, open skating is $5 for youth, students and seniors, and it is $6 for adults.

Go Gaming

Springfield has plenty of places to bring out the gaming side in anyone, and this can include the whole family! If you want to relive your old school days, stop by 1984 for some Pacman and Galaga 80’s arcade fun. For the adults, at 417 Taphouse you can find a self serve tap wall and games like giant Jenga. For the kids or the whole family, places like bowling at Andy B’s or hanging out at Incredible Pizza are a ton of fun!

Tour a Chocolate Factory

One thing that makes Springfield awesome is the local businesses. Askinosie Chocolate is a small-batch bean-to-bar chocolate maker specializing in single-origin chocolate and they’re located right here in SGF, on Commercial Street! The cocoa beans are 100% sourced directly from small farmers. Tours are open to the public every Tuesday at 3:30, and they also have special Holiday Factory Tours held every Saturday from November 19 through Christmas Eve led by Founder and CEO, Shawn Askinosie.

Solve an Escape Room

If it’s way too cold out for outdoor activities, grab your family and head to one of the three escape rooms in Springfield! You’ll solve problems, find clues and get creative as you race against time. 417 Escape Artist gives you multiple rooms to choose from, such as the ‘417 Lounge’ and the ‘Secret Warehouse.’ Clue Pursuit is designed for your group of friends and family and yours alone, so no need to worry about playing with strangers. Springfield Escape Room will definitely give your brain a challenge as you try to escape the room in 60 minutes!

Head Down to Branson

Silver Dollar City is the perfect spot to bring the family for some winter fun and to see the incredible unparalleled light display, including the 5 story special effects Christmas tree! If you still need to do some holiday shopping or have some Christmas gifts to use, visit Tanger Outlet for all of your favorite outlet stores. Be sure to stop by the Branson Landing for more shopping and the fire and water show, accompanied by some fun Christmas music!

Jump Around at Sky Zone

Nothing will warm you up or get your blood flowing more than an afternoon at SkyZone! At this fun indoor trampoline park, they are dedicated to providing you with the pure joy that comes with flying. They are sky lovers, thrill-seekers and people who believe that jumping is freedom. If you’re looking for a fun thing to do with the kids this winter, SkyZone is the place to be.

Catch a Great Movie Near You

The holidays are the perfect time to see a movie with the whole family, and there are plenty of great places to do just that in the Ozarks! Try The Moxie located downtown, for a variety of independent, classic and foreign films. Just down the street is the Regal College Station Stadium and located in south Springfield is the Premiere Palace for all of your new releases. Springfield also has it’s own IMAX theater at AMC Springfield 11, located on the East Side of town!
