It’s that time again! We love trying new restaurants around town almost as much as we love telling everyone about them! We’ve seen quite a few new spots open around town, from a Morris Family renovation to a Asian-inspired sandwich shop from City Butcher co-owner Cody Smith. Let’s take a closer look at some new spots to put on your list for this winter.
3654 S. Campbell Ave
Fans of City Butcher already know about this cool new spot two doors down from the first CB location. Opened in September, Lucky Tiger has quickly built a pretty loyal fanbase. It’s easy to see why with a totally unique offering: Banh Mi sandwiches. We recommend the bulgogi cheesesteak, it’s got all the things you’d expect on cheesesteak sandwich with a delightful twist of the Korean dish. They also have awesome nods to City Butcher with a pork belly Banh Mi sandwich. Get the Togarashi tots as a spicy side and a Stubborn Soda fountain drink. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Oh, and keep an eye out for ramen on Wednesdays!
802 Finley Farms Lane | Ozark, MO
The stunning reimagining of Finley Farms has another new addition to add to its impressive resume. The Workshop at Finley Farms looks poised to become one of the most frequented cafes in the area very soon and it has only been open for a few days at the time of this writing. It’s interior design is gorgeous, a minimal tribute to the historic Ozark setting and a modern palette with natural elements at every turn. Early visitors have raved about the unique and delicious coffee, the tasty brunch and breakfast and the friendly, helpful staff. Put this one near the top of your list and while you’re at it keep an eye out for cool classes at Finley Farms like dry wreath-making and homemade squash ravioli cooking classes.
306 E Commercial St
The newest eatery on Historic C Street is the first one to serve traditional Italian cuisine. It first opened in late August by the owners of Sisters in Thyme and has since garnered plenty of rave reviews from locals. They are one of the few places in Springfield to get a Roman classic Pasta Carbonara, but they do it with tortellini instead of the traditional rigatoni or linguine. They also serve shrimp scampi, Italian torte and plenty of other awesome classics.
235 North Kimbrough
Beer lovers in Springfield are getting a little bit spoiled with all the local craft brews they have to choose from. Hold Fast is the newest of the bunch and is the first one that is owned by women. Sisters Carol and Susan McLeod chose to open Hold Fast to honor the memory of their father who taught them the importance of community. They hold true to this idea by inviting food trucks from the area to serve their patrons as much as possible. They also have some of the most talented musical acts in the city perform and have regular trivia nights.

Springfield’s newest Mexican restaurant is already drawing rave reviews for its friendly service, large portions and reasonable prices. It’s located next to Metropolitan Grill on Sunshine where Emac and Bolio’s used to be. The menu has all your classic favorites, some of which have a unique twist and plenty of things you won’t find anywhere else. Of particular interest to very hungry folks will be the Lava Rock Bowl or Molcajete. It features hanger steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, plantains, market veggies, queso cotija, Mexican rice, charro beans with tortillas. You could feed an army with that, and it’s ok if you just call your own stomach “an army” for the night. You’ll also want to check out the street food section of the menu. Some real, authentic items there!

After much anticipation, Freezing Cow is now open at its South Glenstone location! Now you can finally try their rolled ice cream. They use only the freshest ingredients and they prepare it right in front of you on an ice cold surface. It’s then gently scraped into a rolled shape and served in a cup. You can also have some fun with toppings! Its a great place to take the kids, too.

Springfield’s hippest jazz club and eatery opened its doors in August, so it’s not a secret anymore, but did you know it has a silky smooth menu to go along with its silky smooth tunes? That’s right. You can sit back with some fried olives and house aioli before your order of shrimp and grits or smoked fried chicken. Plus, they’ve recently announced a brunch menu that’s served every Sunday from 11-4. We highly recommend checking this place out! It’s an experience you can’t have anywhere else in the city!

Though it opened all the way back in July, we haven’t included yet and it’s time to right that wrong. Little Korea is another totally unique dining experience. It’s been described as Korean fondue because it’s a variety of dip-able items and a ‘hot pot’. After you select the base soup for your hot pot, you then wait for it boil and start cooking your dip-ables! I only takes a few minutes to cook your items and then you have a delicious variety of bites to fill up on!

SweetNSnow will be introducing a new frozen dessert to Springfield, Missouri called Taiwanese Shaved Snow this weekend (November 16th). It’s a dairy free, gluten free, nut free, and vegan friendly dessert that is unlike any other in the area. This frozen treat starts off first as a specially formulated ice block that is shaved down. The final product is a thin, light, soft, fluffy, creamy ribbon-like texture that melts in your mouth just like snow. The shaved snow comes in many flavors such as: mango, peach, match green tea, coffee, taro, coconut, Thai tea and the good ‘ol traditional flavors of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. More flavors may be added to the menu, too. You can top off your snow with your favorite topping or syrup and have yourself a snow sundae. Not only will SweetNSnow be serving shaved snow, but also delicious real fruit blended smoothies!
One of the hottest new restaurants on the west side, Golden Cuisine Chinese offers quality dishes for affordable prices. They can absolutely nail all of your favorites from Orange Chicken to Moo Goo Gai Pan and of course the crown jewel, Cashew Chicken. Thank you for reading Springfood, MO Podcast!

Wondering what’s going in those shipping containers in the Lucky’s Market parking lot? It’s going to be called Taco Habitat and it will serve tacos using high quality, organic ingredients. For the moment, that’s all we know, but we’ll definitely check it out when it opens!

One of the most successfull, most decorated BBQ chains in the Midwest is coming to Springfield! Sugarfire has been finished in the top 25 at the World Food Championships for best sandwich in the world. It’s also been named the best new restaurant in Indianapolis in 2018 and perhaps the most important accolade, Hip Hop legend Snoop Dogg gave it his stamp of approval. We can never have too many great places to get BBQ in Springfield, so we say welcome to Sugarfire!
