The spring season is upon us as the weather gets warmer and folks are out and about. If you find yourself wanting to be like the people that constantly have their house clean, this season can be the season you start cultivating those habits! Whether it’s something as simple as making the bed or getting your papers organized, it’s easy to start having a cleaner home when you do a little something every day. Here are 10 tips for keeping your home squeaky clean this spring.
1 . Leave shoes at the door.
Create a landing strip for rain boots, tennis shoes and other things that might dirty up the floors. Hang up some hooks for keys and lanyards so they don’t end up being strung around the house. You’ll have an easier time trying to find them if you keep them in the same place every day!
2. Clean as you go.
It helps if you put a few things away while you’re going about the house. Clean up the kitchen as you cook dinner or put a few clothes away as you’re going to bed. If you’ve got something in the oven, wipe down the counters or wash the dishes while it’s cooking.
3. Keep papers organized.
The cluttered desk that you keep avoiding could use some TLC. Create a good filing system to keep the papers you really need and recycle the rest. Use paperweights and stylish file folders to keep your documents organized and looking good.
4. Don’t own extras of anything.
Minimal living is becoming more popular and there’s good reason for it. What use do you have for five pairs of kitchen scissors or dozens of sheet sets? If you don’t need it, get rid of it or donate it. You’ll save so much space and there will be less things around to clean up.
5. Tidy up a little something everyday.
Don’t try to clean your house all in one day like some sort of binge cleaning day. You’ll leave exhausted and unmotivated for the rest of the day. Cleaning as you go saves time and is a great habit to start.
6. Never let dishes pile up.
This is pretty much a given. It’s much easier to do two or three dishes here and there instead of a giant pile at the end of the week. Either hand wash as you go or put in the dishwasher after using them.
7. Use baskets to store cluttered items.
Sometimes, just stacking your stuff doesn’t make it look more organized. Grab a nice basket or organizational tool from your favorite container store and put away your things neatly so the clutter is concealed.
8. Deal with mail on a daily basis.
Everyday when you check the mail, get rid of the junk mail you know you won’t do anything with immediately and sort the mail you will need. Don’t let it pile up! The longer you wait, the harder it will be to deal with later on.
9. Dust & vacuum.
The two things that people always say they’re going to do but never do consistently are dusting and vacuuming. When you start making these into rituals, your house will see a ton of improvement. Doing this once or twice a week can save you from a weekend deep clean and you’ll have more time to relax.
10. Make the bed.
This simple task can go a long way. If you’re in a hurry, making the bed can make the room look tidy without taking up too much time. You can get into it so much that you can’t leave the house without tidying the beds a bit.
