This Saturday and Sunday the Fall Street Machine Nationals return to the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds! O’Reilly Auto Parts is bringing the biggest car show in Springfield back for its 28th year. More than 1,400 cars will be on display and the crowd is expected to exceed 20,000 people. It’s one of the biggest events all year in Springfield and probably THE biggest for gearheads, so let’s take a closer look at what’s going on at Street Machine Nationals. Are you ready?!
There are more than 55 professionally judged categories at this year’s Nationals. Cars will be measured against each other for everything from best paint job to best engine to best interior in several categories. Street machines, street rods and trucks will all be judged against each other, of course, but Fords, GMs and Mopars will all be divided up as well.
There’s also some miscellaneous awards like youngest participant, oldest participant and longest distance (travelled). Some of the more unique awards include the ‘Just Cool’ award, which will go to something that’s just too cool to ignore. There’s also outstanding car award and the cool stance award, which are sure to be fan favorites.
The one award everyone will be watching is the grand champion award for street machines, trucks and street rods. These are the overall winners for the festival and often go to compete in other competitions.
Here’s a look at the highlights from last year’s SMN.
The burnout competition goes down on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. and you’re not gonna want to miss this part. As a spectator, you can cheer on your favorite burnouts from other attendees and as a competitor you can win a $500 gift card to Big O Tires! The top five burnouts will get trophies, which will make great mantlepieces for the winners! If you want to compete, just make sure you sign up at least an hour before the competition times.
It’s not all burnin’ rubber at this year’s Nationals. This year United Way is putting on a benefit to help out kids in needs in the area. There will be a silent auction, a raffle, a boot pass and several other events too. The United Way does some amazing things for kids in need here in the Ozarks, so dig deep and help these folks out!
The host of the Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws, Tina Pierce will be out signing autographs on Saturday from 10:3-0 a.m. to 1:30 and from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. She’ll only be there on Saturday though, so don’t miss her! The Fastest Chick in Oklahoma will be showing off her suped up Chevy Colorado, too!
On Saturday afternoon only, there will be a demolition derby!
Tons of vendor will be on site both days at the Street Machine Nationals this year. Here’s the full list:
